Calamity Days (Snow Days)
Our decision to close school due to weather is based solely on the safety of our students and staff. We utilize data from multiple sources such as weather reports, local and state road conditions as well as contact with area school superintendents when closing school. We will use a variety of communication avenues when delaying or closing. We will post closings and delays on our school district app as well as our website HERE. We will also utilize our call system. School closings and/ or delays will be notified if possible the prior evening or by 5:30 a.m. It is important to update any changes to your phone with our Central Office at 545-6354. In addition, closing and delays will be reported to the following radio stations WTNS, WTUZ, WJER and television stations WHIZ, NBC4, 10WBNS and ABC6/Fox.   Students will have a calamity day for Snow Days 1-7. We will utilize blizzard bags on snow day 8, 9 and 10. Blizzard bag information and/or assignments will be sent home with your child or may be found on the district website. Teachers will be available via email on blizzard bag days during normal school hours.

RLSD PARTICIPATING IN SATCHEL PLUS SEL PROGRAM
SEL programs help youth and adults learn and apply knowledge, skills and attitudes to enrich their personal and academic lives. Studies have shown that social-emotional programs increase academic performance, attendance, behavior and post-secondary success. Satchel Pulse is an easy-to-use survey with 25 simple questions. Students use the survey to rate their self-awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship, and responsible decision making skills. This helps us learn how to best support students’ ongoing development. For more information on Social-Emotional Learning visit the ODE Website. For a concise description of skills taught in SEL programs visit the National University Website. For information from Sachel Pulse and Teachercentric visit the Satchel Pulse Website. If you have any questions please contact you student's school counselor.

Ridgewood Teen Institute Program

The Ridgewood Teen Institute Program is a local program offering community service and participating in outreach programs. Michelle Stoffer has been the Teen Institute Program Director for over 10 years and considers the program important for both the community and the Juniors and Seniors who participate. She currently has 15 students engaged in the program. The Adopt-a-Pre-School Class is the first project the group has started this school year. This project lasts the entire school year and at least once a month the group will visit Mrs. Marquis’s pre-school class and help them work on various craft projects, or they may just spend time talking and playing with the kids in the pre-school class. Either way, fun is had by everyone! The group also organizes an Easter Egg Hunt in the spring for the pre-school class.  Coming soon will be the next project Teen Institute will take on – making about 25 fleece tie care blankets and at least 50 gift bags for patients at the Gabrail Cancer Center in Canton. They will then take the items up to the center around Christmas. During their visit, they sing Christmas carols and distribute the gifts. Michelle also likes to organize a couple projects throughout the year depending on community need. These have yet to be established. When asked about the program, Michelle states “It’s a good thing and we have great students!” which says it all!

Getting Too Many Alerts on the Ridgewood Local School APP? You can fix that!

You can reduce the number if posts you receive by going into the App, tap the Menu (3 lines at the top right of the screen) scroll down to Settings and tap My Alerts. In here you can choose which types of Alerts you want to recieve. Just toggle off the types of Alerts you no longer wish to recieve. If you have multiple buildings added in your APP (including the District) make sure you edit the settings in each building and toogle off the types of alerts you do not want to see. If you have any question, please contact Shirley Smith at the High School, 740-545-6345.
