Ridgewood Local Schools is proud to recognize Graham Miller and Nolan McCombs for being named winners in the Coshocton County Board of Developmental Disabilities’ annual Essay Contest.

As part of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, the contest invites students in grades 3–6 to reflect on inclusion and accessibility within their communities. This year’s prompt asked students to consider how they would respond if a friend who uses a wheelchair could not access playground equipment at a community park.

Graham and Nolan demonstrated thoughtful insight, empathy, and a strong commitment to inclusion through their responses. Their work highlights the importance of ensuring that all individuals—regardless of ability—feel welcomed, supported, and able to participate fully in community activities.

The Coshocton County Board of Developmental Disabilities hosts this annual essay contest for grades 3–6, along with a coloring contest for grades K–2, each March to promote awareness and celebrate inclusion. The initiative encourages students to think critically about how to make their communities more accessible and welcoming for everyone.
