For 32 years, John Lindig has helped shape the sound, spirit, and tradition of the Ridgewood Marching Generals. As he prepares to retire at the conclusion of this school year, Ridgewood Local Schools celebrates a career marked by musical excellence, dedication, and an enduring impact on hundreds of students.
Under Lindig’s leadership, the band has earned an extraordinary 31 State Marching Band Finals qualifications, missing only 2020 due to COVID restrictions, and achieved 26 Superior ratings at state. His career has also included more than 300 Friday night football games, bringing music and school pride to generations of Ridgewood fans.
“John’s dedication to our students and the Ridgewood music program has been remarkable,” said Superintendent Mike Masloski. “The accomplishments speak for themselves, but his greatest contribution is the lasting impact he has made on generations of students.”
Through countless hours of teaching and rehearsals, Lindig has helped students develop their musical talents, build confidence, and understand the value of preparation and teamwork. His influence reaches beyond the field, creating memories and connections that students carry with them long after graduation.
That tradition of excellence continues during his final school year. The Ridgewood Marching Generals recently earned first place in Class C at Meadowbrook High School and qualified for state competition—another proud achievement for Lindig and his hardworking student musicians.
“It is special to see John and our Marching Generals earn another state qualification during his final year,” Masloski said. “We are proud of our students and grateful for the leadership, care, and commitment John has brought to Ridgewood for 32 years.”
The community is invited to celebrate Mr. Lindig on Friday, October 16, at his final home football game. Students, alumni, families, and fans will have an opportunity to recognize his many contributions and thank him for his years of dedication.
