In light of recent events, I would like to take this time to assure you that the safety and welfare of our students is our highest priority. We continue to take steps in providing a safe and secure learning environment for our students, staff and community. We have implemented ALICE training, ALICE buckets, ALICE drills, and upgrades with our physical as well as our communication structures. We have received a tremendous amount of help from our local police department under the leadership of Chief Klopfenstein. Chief Klopfenstein has been very instrumental with the many upgrades and improvements of the security and safety of our students. We are in constant communication about ways to improve and add layers to our security plan for our district. We have also conducted tabletop drills with Rob McMaster from Coshocton County Emergency Management. We are currently working on additional security enhancements for the Ridgewood Local School District.
The safety and welfare of our students is also being addressed by meeting the emotional needs of our students. It is important that all students have a place and voice in our schools. Our staff members work daily to provide a positive educational experience for our students. We have added a full time guidance counselor at the elementary this school year which allows us to have a full time guidance counselor in each building. We have PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) Teams in each building that work to make sure every single student has an adult contact. We work with many county agencies during the school day as well as our afterschool programs to provide additional support to many of our students. We are currently training our District Level Team in Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s) and will be having a District Employee In-Service on May 24.
