Junior Achievement volunteers visit Ridgewood Elementary

| January 20, 2017

WEST LAFAYETTE – Ridgewood Elementary participated in Junior Achievement Day on Jan. 20. According to Leslie Dulgar, school counselor, Junior Achievement (JA) is a nationwide, nonprofit youth organization. It is free K-12 programming and focuses around entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and workplace readiness.

JA provides economic education beginning in the earliest years of learning and helps students increase their learning as well as problem-solving and decision making skills. The lessons are delivered by community volunteers, who included: Sarah Warne, Jessica Gribben, Holly Camp, Tracy Stainer, Lisa Mowery, Deborah Crowdy, Beccy Porteus, Bob Bigrigg, Lyn Mizer, Tabitha Patterson, Stanley Zurowski, Mark Fortune, Steven Bordenkircher, Theresa Meiser, Riki Johnson, and Carol Carbary.

First grader Kylee Bice said she was having a good day learning about families with her classroom’s Junior Achievement volunteer. Porteus led activities in Bice’s classroom and taught them about how families and neighborhoods can work together. Cameron Mladek also enjoyed having Porteus teach them and said she learned that people aren’t the same all the time.

Holly Camp is the district manager for Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio and more information about the organization can be found at www.jaofnco.ja.org.
